OUR INITIATIVES - HOW WE HELP

Supporting Recovery from the Ground Up

Recovery takes many forms. Through education, community partnerships, financial assistance, and science-based programs, ASRF is helping expand access to the resources residents need to make informed decisions, restore healthy soil, and rebuild stronger communities.

Contaminated Property Soil Testing & Treatment Assistance

ASRF helps underinsured and uninsured fire survivors gain access to soil testing, remediation, and recovery services that might otherwise be financially out of reach.

Through donor support, community partnerships, and educational resources, we help reduce barriers to soil recovery while empowering residents to make informed decisions about rebuilding on healthy soil.

If you have questions about your soil testing results, or would simply like a second expert opinion, our team can help you better understand your report and explore available recovery options.

Composting Host Sites

Host Sites are community partners who provide space for compost production and biological soil restoration activities that support Altadena's recovery.

By participating, Host Sites help expand access to soil remediation resources across the community while strengthening a locally driven recovery effort.

Participating properties may also qualify for free or reduced-cost treatment services.

Monthly Soil Clinics

Knowledge empowers recovery.

Through hands-on workshops, demonstrations, and educational programs, residents learn how soil is tested, how healthy soil functions, and what recovery options may be available following wildfire impacts.

Our goal is not to create fear—it is to replace uncertainty with knowledge, access, and practical solutions so residents can make informed decisions about rebuilding safely.

Soil Safety Office Hours

Questions don't always fit into a workshop.

That's why ASRF hosts regular Soil Safety Office Hours, providing residents with direct access to science-based guidance in a welcoming, community-centered environment.

Bring your soil testing reports, ask questions, review results, and speak with experienced soil recovery professionals about testing, treatment options, rebuilding considerations, and long-term soil health.

Whether you're just beginning your recovery journey or looking for additional guidance, we're here to help you better understand your soil and the options available to you.

Table to Soil Program

ASRF's Table to Soil Program transforms local food waste into valuable compost that helps restore healthy soil throughout Altadena.

By partnering with local restaurants, markets, and businesses, organic materials are diverted from landfills and converted into biologically rich compost that supports community-wide recovery.

This circular, community-based approach creates local solutions using local resources while strengthening environmental resilience.
